This doll is Cissette. She is one of the Portrette Dolls made somewhere between 1968 and 1970 by Madame Alexander. Marked: Mme. Alexander. She stands almost 10" high, all jointed hard plastic with bend knees, and a strung fashion body.
Her face is great, with lovely coloring and original paint. Also blue sleep eyes, molded lashes, feathered brows, blue eyeshadow, coral lips & pink cheeks.
She wears her original golden-blonde wig with center part, curls pulled up on the sides, and more curls around her shoulders. It is in great shape with original pink bows & flowers.
The body is also nice with nice coloring, knees bending well, and pink nail polish intact.
Cissette wears her original tagged outfit. This includes a gorgeous pink gown with ten layers of ruffled lace over a full organdy skirt. The bodice has a net covering & lace trim, with a satin sash & pink fabric flowers at her waist. She also wears a full crinoline petticoat with ruffled net, nylon pantyhose, and high heel shoes. The shoes may be original to a different Cissette doll.
Now the mystery. Her tag reads Melinda. I have not found any Melinda dolls wearing this gown on the internet, but have found two photos of her by searching piles of Madame Alexander books. 'Alexander's Ladies of Fashion' by Marjorie Sturges Uhl refers to her as Melanie. 'Madame Alexander Dolls on Review' page 209, by the same author refers to her as Godey. The author also states 'A very difficult doll to locate and a collector having one in her collection is very fortunate'. Her Melinda tag has not been tampered with, and the outfit is excellent.
